On Friday a judge in Austin blocked Texas' attempts to license the family detention centers in Dilley and Karnes City as "childcare facilities" (except, you know, childcare facilities that do not have to follow the rules of childcare facilities but get to follow the rules of prisons, instead, except it is hard to conceptualize how prison rules really work with babies and toddlers).
The federal government released approximately 460 women and children over the weekend. This is only a quarter of the refugee families being imprisoned and ICE has been releasing statements that the releases were not due to the results of the court hearing.
