World Thinking Day 2014

World Thinking Day falls on February 22nd each year, a day when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world pause to think of their sisters in other countries.  This year's theme was UN Millennium Development Goal 2 – Achieve universal primary education.  My girls had fun at our Service Unit's event.  They did a display on Luxembourg and visited all the other countries that other troops had prepared.  It was lovely, as always.

Out To Senior Year

I am sorry the blog has been so quiet lately.  We are just in a season of way-too-much-going on right now.  I am doing my best to keep up.  May I suggest The Texas Tribune and South Texas Chisme as good sites about Texas and South Texas issues in times when you find my offerings too paltry?  I am around and will pick up the pace when I can.

19

This picture is Lone Star Pa and me in my mother's kitchen about 15 months before we got married.  Today it is 19 years since we got married...and we are still married!  Happy Anniversary to us!  In the car this morning on the way to school, the Lone Star Girl and I had a conversation that basically sums up my feelings about marriage:

LSG:  19 years!
Me:  We are old.
LSG:  You are successful!  Hardly anyone stays married that long!
(I do think she has a somewhat skewed view of this - many people stay married.)
Me:  We work hard at it.
LSG:  Yeah, but I think that's what most people don't realize - that you have to work, that you don't just stop when it is not easy.
Me:  I think commitment is good for the soul.

Visionarios

The Girl won honorable mention in mixed media and first place in dry media in this year's Visionarios contest (we didn't even know she had entered more than one piece).  We also noticed that her piece that won second place last year is shown in the Art  Museum's catalogue.  Also, as far back as we can remember, the theme for Visionarios has been something like "Our City" (maybe "Corpus Christi", but you get the idea) except that after the wonderful recycled-materials collage she entered last year, they changed the theme to "Reduce, Reuse, Restart" this year. Coincidence?  I think not.  Lone Star Ma is proud.
