Texas Republicans Want To Repeal The Voting Rights Act of 1965

Yet another reason why one should never, ever vote Republican.  Again, their own words from the 2012 Texas Republican Party Platform:

"We urge that the Voter* Rights Act of 1965 codified and updated in 1973 be repealed and not reauthorized."

While they do not offer up a reason for this one in the platform, I expect that it is included because their redistricting plans keep getting struck down by Federal courts as being in violation of the Act due to their obvious efforts to dilute minority voting blocks.
