Today is the 44th anniversary of Hurricane Celia! I do not remember Celia because I was not born yet, but I know it was a great tragedy for our city. My mom and dad lived, at the time, in one of those little apartments in a house on Elizabeth and it literally blew away around them as they huddled in the bathroom trying to keep the door shut with a razor blade. Luckily, they were mostly alright (my dad got a cut on his back) and were able to make it to my grandparents' house on Flynn Parkway, which withstood the storm well. Many were not so lucky.
Do you have memories of Hurricane Celia?
