I enjoyed The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, for novel (as a bonus, it came out in 2013, or maybe 2012, but close enough) and Settled in the Wild by Susan Shetterly for CNF. I liked the quiet, cold imagery and storytelling (weaving a fairy tale into real life) in The Snow Child, and I really enjoyed Susan Shetterly's voice and calm pragmatism when writing about nature.Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14748454816480995214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14319152.post-65997118766232868442014-01-01T19:05:38.576-06:002014-01-01T19:05:38.576-06:00I enjoyed The Barbarian Nurseries, by Hector Tobar...I enjoyed The Barbarian Nurseries, by Hector Tobar. One of the reasons I love reading fiction is the opportunity to see things from the perspective of people unlike myself. This book is told from the point of view of an affluent woman, her husband, who came from a more modest background, and the Mexican nanny who works in the nursery of these "barbarians".Ganachehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12623999939410793564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14319152.post-54548303923766758842014-01-01T17:33:43.912-06:002014-01-01T17:33:43.912-06:00Existence, by David Brin. Full of his astonishing intellect and broad range of interests, it's endlessly interesting.Maggie Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14699674732274478502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14319152.post-54338710446148038462013-12-30T18:28:13.114-06:002013-12-30T18:28:13.114-06:00Why were they so good? Why were they so good?Lone Star Mahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14339475499304565638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14319152.post-60558776403951873872013-12-30T15:41:52.154-06:002013-12-30T15:41:52.154-06:00It was a tossup - MaddAdam was one, and the Golem ...It was a tossup - MaddAdam was one, and the Golem and the Jinni was another.
